....when you pull away from the curb, listen for the revs to get to just the right point, raise your left foot, and then jam it down on the brake pedal because you forgot you were in your automatic instead of your manual.

I did that over the holidays in my moms Acura. Was my first time driving auto in a year. Luckily it was just on our cul-de-sac so there was no traffic.

I've got an Accord and a Durango, the Durango is column shift and the Accord is a 5 speed. If I've been driving the Durango a lot I'll often get in the Accord, turn around to look for backing up and reach for the column shifter. Doesn't work so well. I'll even do it with the clutch pushed in, that gets a laugh every time.

Happens on the rare chance I'm driving my mom's Volvo. Every car I've had for the last 15 years has been a 5 speed. I can't picture DDing anything else.

Had a buddy in college that was from Germany. He bought a automatic ford taurus to get a round here. Unfortunately for him fords have a third pedal, he's pretty lucky he didn't get rear ended. Foot parking brake has got to be one of the worse ideas out there.

Regarding foot parking brakes: Back in the day, that was about the only approach available for cars with front bench seats (I grew up with a '75 Ford Torino set up that way).

Still miss the hand pull-out-from-under-the-dash parking brake on my old '90 Isuzu Trooper.

That's okay, I tried to column shift a car with a floor mounted transmission over the holidays. Brilliance.

I drive a '99 Taurus sometimes. The brake is way up (closer) above the dead pedal. Was it in the well on other models?

The first time that I drove a "Tiptronic" car... It was a 1.8T Jetta, and eventually I wanted to wind it out. As the tach neared redline, I hit that stick forward with agression, while simultaneously mashing the left-most pedal to the floor...

I resigned to driving the car normally following that.

I was visiting family over the holidays and kept putting my grandpas lexus in park because muscle memory told me that was where 1st should be...
